According to my new favourite last name, one of ORU’s lawyers was sick this morning, and the hearing was postponed. Two key quotes:
A new date has not been set for Trent Huddleston’s the case against ORU and its leaders, originally filed in November.
And, regarding enrollment:
ORU announced preliminary fall enrollment figures Friday, showing a decline of about 3 percent, or less than 100 students, from this time last year. The university hosts about 3,000 students.

This is juicy.
TRENT HUDDLESTON’S LAWSUIT
Back in November, NewsOk reported that Trent Huddleston filed a lawsuit (available here in PDF) against ORU claiming that:
…he was ordered to falsely report thousands of dollars of assets as expenses, which allowed the Robertses (sic) to spend university money on their extravagant lifestyle without agencies such as the Internal Revenue Service realizing how the money was being spent. … [and that] he was forced out of his position because he refused to remain silent about “the fact the defendants were committing illegal acts.”
Key quote from the article:
On the day Huddleston was forced out, an audit initiated by ORU’s regents was set to begin.

Apparently, 1 billion dollars was allegedly funneled thru ORU inappropriately on an annual basis. That’s billion. With a B.
In other – also very interesting – news…
ORU has asked for a dismissal of the lawsuit.

…the ministry and the school! Wow!!
Also, Mart Green, founder of Hobby Lobby and Mardel Christian Educational and Supply chain, has promised to give ORU a WHOLE LOTTA MONEY! With what seems like good strings attached…
Check it all out here: Tulsa World.
Key Quote: “Pearsons promised that faculty, staff, student, and alumni would be involved in the presidential search process.“
Thanks to Steph!

Mark Lewandowski, the current ORU provost is quoted here as saying that the new ORU president must have “solid academic credentials, leadership skills and a strong Christian faith.”

Richard Roberts has tendered his resignation as President of ORU effective Friday, November 23rd, 2007. According to a statement by George Pearsons on the ORU website, “the Board of Regents will meet Monday and Tuesday, November 26 and 27, 2007 to determine action in the search process for a new president.” NY Times. Associated Press. CNN. And of course, Tulsa World.
This announcement came almost immediately after Trent Huddleston, a senior accountant for ORU, filed a lawsuit on Wednesday, November 21st, alleging “that he was ordered to help school president Richard Roberts and his wife ‘cook the books’ by hiding financial wrongdoing from authorities and the public.”
Regardless of this action by Roberts, Cornell Cross, quoted in this “hot off the press” article from JJ the AP writer, believes that “the culture of fear that has been allowed to fester at ORU has to be looked into.”
Thanks to the kids at SaveORU.com for the info.
Ryan and I have mixed feelings…
