So Ryan posted that link this morning about Dr. Swails, Brooker and Brooker’s wife suing ORU, Richard Roberts and several other key individuals. It’s very interesting… I don’t need to repeat it all here; but FYI, here’s a few links.

It seems that these professors love the university and want the best for it. I hope that truth will prevail and that all parties are absolutely held accountable! Thoughts?

R-Update: I must add that none of the new stories I’ve read do justice to the contents of the actual deposition (or whatever you call it – first link above). The things that they are accusing the Roberts & the school of, if proven, will almost certainly sink Richard Roberts’ career, as far as I can tell. I am glad to see the cloak of secrecy and control with which the ORU is managed is finally being compromised.

G-Update: More links to post…

Another G-Update: please DON’T sign this petition. Instead, wait… Ryan and I have an idea.

Here’s the latest news.

I was reading through the comments on the Tulsa World article and found this:

    7. 10/2/2007 10:07:55 AM, Nathan, Broken Arrow
The “campus that God built?” LOL, more like the campus that fraud build. Plus–and I’m fairly certain about this–God has much better taste in architecture.

    I thought it was funny.

  2. The Micheal says:

wow after reading the lawsuit I am just in awe.

  3. stephanie says:

pure craziness. it was big news when it broke, but now there’s other things being talked about here. it’ll be interesting to see if any more people come forward or not. a bunch of people were saying it was just about the money, but after everyone saw how much the professors are asking for, those people shut up. i’m proud of the professors for standing up!

  4. M says:

HA! HA-HA! HAHAHAHA! A-HAA-HAA-HAA-HAA-HAAAAAAAAAAA! -deleted by moderator- Ahem….

What I mant to say was “Your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. Do not store up for yourselves wealth here on earth, where moths and rust destroy, and burglars break in and steal. Instead, store up for yourselves wealth in heaven…”
    –Matthew (Mattityahu) 6: 18b-20a

  5. gilliebean says:

i hope it stays big. i want it to be big and important. i want it not to be forgotten. i want the truth to come out. i want it to go to trial. i want the trial to be transparent. i want justice.

  6. Carrie says:

We should all be aware of the responsibility we carry in our professional and personal lives and be certain to keep that line clearly defined. I hope there is justice for all wronged parties.

  7. Nicole says:

The truth shall set you free…do you think this will set us free from college debt? Probably not. ANYWAYS-I want the Roberts to learn from this and I want people to see that it is not hard to stand up for what you believe in, like these professors have done. Also, I hope Roberts has now figured out the downside of hiring ONLY moral, christian professors 🙂

  8. poontang says:

i like how mattityahu hides from reality, totally unbelievable!

  9. gilliebean says:

Nicole…? Do you think it’s BAD to hire ONLY moral, Christian profs?

  10. synapps says:

I really think that professors should be as moral as they come… after all, any student (though expected to make up his own mind) will be heavily influenced by them.

  11. T.Ferg says:

I think what Nicole is saying is that by hiring moral, christian professors ORU set itself up for the inevitability of this. No morally and ethically responsible professors could find out all these things and allow them to stand. It was only a matter of time before some people did the right thing.

  12. gilliebean says:

T.Ferg. Ah yes… that makes sense. The upside of the downside, in this case. 😉

  13. JB says:

This is not the first university professor to be summarily fired from ORU. Dr Hayden, a theology professor, was fired a few years ago after a stint serving in the UK, at Peniel College of Higher Education, part of the ministry of Bishop Michael Reid, an affiliate of ORU in the UK, issuing ORU degrees. He was fired for standing up for members of the congregation who were concerned about the bullying and controlling way in which reid ran his church, using his church school to control church members, forcing them to tithe on threat of expulsion of their children, as well as pay fees, abusing people from the pulpit, and all manner of abuses of his congregation, all the while living an extravagant luxury lifestyle himself. Dr Hayden, a humble yet godly and talented professor, was summarily sacked for siding with concerned members of the congregation against Reid, who I believe was a regent of ORU and a personal friend of Richard Roberts. A huge injustice was done against Dr Hayden, and a betrayal of the people he was attempting to stand up for, many of whom have since left reid’s church, and although there was one lawsuit against him by a woman who said her life had been ruined, for the most part those who left declined to sue.

  14. […] finished my last semester), and after all that’d gone on at ORU in the previous year (see this post), I was more than a little anxious to get the first visit over […]
